DISGRACE! Nigerian House Of Reps Fight Over Rebelling Governors














Fighting erupted in the House of Representatives on Tuesday when seven governors loyal to the New Peoples Democratic Party visited the House in Abuja.
A member of the House from Bayelsa State, Mr. Henry Ofongo, was punched and shoved repeatedly by his colleagues for daring to oppose the visit. His jacket was pulled off by some members.

Most of the members who crowded Ofongo, were from Kano State, including Mr. Aminu Suleiman, Mr. Baballe Murktar, Mr. Ali Madakaki and Mr. Ado Dogoa.

Mr. Dakuku Peterside and Andrew Uchendu, both from Rivers State, also shoved Ofongo, preventing him from moving close to the high table.

In the ensuing fracas, other members , who were in solidarity with Ofongo, attempted to throw chairs.

One of the lawmakers, who lifted a chair but was prevented from throwing it, was Mr. Ini Udoka from Akwa Ibom State.

Kendrick Lamar leads the Soul Train Awards with six nominations, including new artist and song and album of the year; he's closely followed by Justin Timberlake, Robin Thicke, Miguel, Chris Brown and Tamar Braxton, with five each. The award will be taped Nov. 8 at the Orleans Arena.

Funke Akindele Joins Desmond Tutu, Bill Gates, Others as Polio Ambassador

Funke Akindele has received another title to add to her list; the actress and quintessential brand ambassador has been appointed a Polio Ambassador by the Rotary Club International. Funke was brought on board to help the Rotary Club achieve its goal of ridding the world of Polio in a new campaign themed “This Close”.“I feel so honoured to be part of a charitable cause like this. I accepted this appointment because polio kills or paralyzes children and Rotary is committed to ending this terrible disease worldwide.“I also learned that the world has never been so close to eradication of polio since the mid 80’s thanks to the vigorous efforts of Rotary International and its partners,” she said.

Waje Visits Oba of Benin, Receives Gifts And Blessings .

Waje recently paid a visit to Benin City, Capital of her home state, Edo. As part of her brief visit, the popular musician paid a courtesy visit to the Oba of Benin;O mo N’Oba N’edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Erediauwa, CFR. During the visit, Waje sang a belated happy birthday to the delighted Oba who later prayed and presented the Edo-born star with a personally ordered gift-bag. Waje’s visit continued with a courtesy call on the Commissioner of Information and radio stations Vibes, Rhythm and Independent Radio in Benin where she was able to relate with her Edo based fans over the radio. The singer is set to return to Benin City in a few weeks for more activities.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, on Saturday married, Zarha, the daughter of a one-time FCT Minister, Mr Ibrahim Bunu. The wedding ‘fatiha’, which took place at the National Mosque, Abuja, was conducted by the Chief Imam of the mosque, Ustaz Musa Mohammed, who prayed for the success of the marriage.
Dignitaries at the wedding include Vice-President Namadi Sambo, two former Heads of State, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida and Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, the FCT Minister, Alhaji Bala Mohammed, and members of the National Assembly. The reception, which was held at the ThisDay Dome in the city-centre, was attended by Gov. Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe state, the Acting Governor of Taraba, Alhaji Garba Umar, Senators Andy Uba and Paulinus Igwe. Others dignitaries at the reception include the former Chief Security Officer to late Gen. Sani Abacha, Maj. Hamza Al-Mustapha, business moguls Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola as well as Chief Akin Oshuntokun, a former Managing Director of News Agency of Nigeria. Alhaji Adamu Bello, who spoke on behalf of the bride’s family, described the turnout for the marriage as ‘fantastic’ and expressed gratitude to the Allah for the event. Bello urged the couple to live according to Islamic tenets for the success of the marriage. In his remark, Oshuntokun also noted that the large turnout was a reflection of the goodwill which the I-G had from all the nooks and crannies of the country.
